“Kindness as a Clinical Skill”: Keynote at the 2025 Gold Humanism Summit
Jeanne Morgante, DPT, EdD, elevates humanistic care through the power of “Tell Me More” in transforming care
Jeanne Morgante, DPT, Ed, was invited to keynote at the 2025 Gold Humanism Summit: The Person in Front of You held in Baltimore, Maryland, September 17–20, 2025. Her journey to the national stage began with an unexpected moment at a PATMDTA Educational Leadership Luncheon, where an informal discussion about the Tell Me More program introduced her to the powerful tool centered on honoring patient personhood.
That conversation planted a seed. What she learned that day would soon become deeply personal.
When Jeanne found herself needing to advocate for her mother during a vulnerable moment in her care, she turned to Tell Me More as a way to bridge communication, connect with the care team, and bring her mother’s voice into the room.

“That made all the difference,” she said. “I was a daughter, and I needed to advocate for my parent. And because I was a healthcare professional, I had a tool. We just needed to connect.”
This experience became the foundation of Jeanne’s presentation at the Gold Humanism Summit, sharing how Tell Me More had transformed her understanding of the everyday humanism embedded in clinical care.
During the Summit, Jeanne participated in “Kindness as a Clinical Skill,” a joint panel that explored the real‑world impact of the Tell Me More initiative—showcasing how empathy, communication, curiosity, and patient‑centered storytelling can strengthen patient‑provider relationships, elevate the voices of patients and families, and ultimately transform outcomes.
Reflecting on the experience, Jeanne shared:
Because of the vision of the future and all the possibilities with the Patricia A. Tietjen MD Teaching Academy — I was able to share my mom‘s inspirational story learned from our Educational Luncheon about “Tell Me More.”
Her reflections emphasized that humanism in medicine is not an abstract ideal, but a practical, teachable, and scalable approach that can meaningfully transform care across health systems.
Jeanne continues to strengthen the mission of the Patricia A. Tietjen, MD Teaching Academy, by advancing humanistic care rooted in empathy and meaningful connection. Her message is clear: small acts of connection are not just kind—they are clinical.
“It does take patience and fortitude and grit and resilience to continue to promote compassion and empathy in our industry for all of us as healthcare caregivers and for our patients and their families.”
