Danielle Paravati, MSN‑Ed, RN, CEN, TCRN, SCRN, SANE‑A explores critical gaps in IPV and human trafficking response through nurse education

The Teaching Academy is proud to announce the publication of scholarly work by Danielle Paravati, MSN‑Ed, RN, CEN, TCRN, SCRN, SANE‑A, a continuing scholar of the 2022–2023 Clinician Educator Cohort. Danielle’s research will appear in the Journal of Forensic Nursing, with the print edition featured in the 2026 ED/forensic area issue. Digital publication available now: Paravati, D. (2025). Closing the gap: Education for emergency department nurses in the use of human trafficking and intimate partner violence screening tools. Journal of Forensic Nursing. https://doi.org/10.1097/jfn.0000000000000567
As a Medical–Surgical Nurse Educator and Nursing Professional Development Specialist, Danielle joined the Teaching Academy to further explore gaps she observed in nursing readiness when caring for victims of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Human Trafficking (HT). With the Academy’s guidance, she examined these challenges more deeply, identified strategies to strengthen nurses’ knowledge and practice, and developed a structured research framework. Her work focused on creating “educational points of what to do with the information acquired from the screening tool, increasing the nurse’s knowledge on HT and IPV, and increasing the appropriate use of the screening tool.”
In the years that followed, Danielle advanced this work into a publishable research study focused on strengthening clinicians’ understanding and application of IPV and HT screening tools. Her findings offer meaningful contributions to forensic nursing education and support improved identification and intervention for vulnerable patients across emergency and acute care settings.
“I am so thankful for all of the support from the Patricia A. Tietjen, MD Teaching Academy and our CoP for this achievement. Thank you again.“
